JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Office of Fraternity and SororityLife (https://studentaffairs.psu.edu/greeks) is seeking an Assistant Director for Health, Safety, and Event Planning to advise and lead risk prevention and event planning efforts throughout the fraternity and sorority community. This position reports to the Senior Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Training the fraternity and sorority community about effective risk prevention and event planning strategies.

  • Coaching individual chapters to aid in the development of risk management plans.

  • Collaborating with advisors, alumni, inter/national headquarters representatives, facility property managers, and other relevant stakeholders to discuss the progress of local chapters.

  • Reviewing social event registrations and evaluating social events, including participating in a shared, rotating schedule to assess events and chapter facilities.

  • Delivering educational programs on health and safety.

  • Assisting organizations to develop relationships with neighborhood associations, residents, and Borough of State College officials.

Successful candidates should have:

  • Proven record of collaborating and communicating with students and an understanding of health and safety issues in the fraternity and sorority community.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and an ability to provide culturally competent and inclusive services to students and organizations from historically underrepresented communities.

  • Record of successful collaboration involving multiple constituencies.

  • An understanding of risk prevention and event planning concepts.

Candidates must demonstrate:

  • Effective communication skills, including motivational interviewing, advising, and coaching.

  • Ability to balance holding students accountable with developing positive and trusting relationships.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to resolve conflict.

  • Presentation and training facilitation skills.

Typically requires a master’s degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be willing to work nights and weekends, as part of the shared, rotating schedule for on-site event assessment, approximately one or two weeks a month. This position will require successful completion of standard background checks.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$46,400.00 - $67,300.00
