Job Description: Position Title: Buyer I Location: Redmond Reporting to: Buyer, Supervisor Assures manufacturing receives quality parts/services on-time to the point-of-use. Performs specialized and technical duties associated with the purchase, delivery, quality, and packaging of materials, equipment and services for the company's manufacturing and engineering operations.Coordinates material flow, conversion of vendors to Terex AWP material management systems, and timely distribution of materials. Main Duties and Responsibilities Participates in writing specifications for products, materials, and supplies used for production. Learns vendor cycles and procedures to optimize delivery time. Learns how to identify engineering change orders. Assists in procuring urgent materials through the most effective means, considering quality, availability, cost, delivery time, and probability of continued support. Participates with other materials team members to evaluate purchasing agreements and contracts. Works to develop productive relationships with vendors. Develops communications and feedback links. Establishes and maintains a network of information flow and reporting. Maintains up-to-date understanding of the latest thinking in concepts such as total quality management, lean thinking, single piece flow, and just-in-time. Assists in reviewing, revising and originating purchase specifications. Researches and evaluates material usage then assists in establishing ordering criteria to assure adequate but not excessive inventory on hand. Facilitates communication between suppliers and manufacturing team when evaluating situations, solving problems, and/or resolving conflicts. Coordinates purchasing services with other manufacturing support services. Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position. Required Qualifications High School diploma. Requires basic knowledge of methods and procedures used in the purchasing of materials/services/equipment that comply with a just-in-time inventory philosophy. Requires knowledge of the types and sources of supplies, materials and equipment commonly used in manufacture of construction, transportation, and material handling equipment, and engineering environments. Must be familiar with modern office methods, practices and equipment pertinent to purchasing. Requires knowledge of databases and information systems supporting manufacturing, as well as common office productivity software such as spreadsheets, word processing, and graphics. Must have a basic understanding of materials requirements planning (MRP) systems, BOMs and engineering change notice (ECN) processes. Requires the ability to perform all of the essential duties effectively and efficiently. Must be able to handle multiple priorities in an ever-changing work environment. Must be able to apply the company's administrative and departmental policies and procedures. Requires sufficient communication skills to interact formally and informally with a range of individuals inside and outside the company of varied cultural and educational backgrounds. Must be able to prepare and deliver communications in oral and written form. Must be able to create and sustain partnerships with suppliers and manufacturing/engineering teams; ability to work in a team environment. Must be able to perform and produce in a stressful environment with short lead-time. Must be able to make independent judgements based upon evaluating needs versus quality, safety, and cost. Requires sufficient analytical skill to perform mathematical computations, interpret product specifications, and select alternative courses of action with little notice.
