Corewell Health Nurse Tech Neuroscience and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit in Grand Rapids, Michigan

About this unit

7 South is a 22 bed Progressive Neuroscience unit located within Butterworth Hospital. This unit specializes in the care of stroke and adult epilepsy patients. As an accredited comprehensive stroke center, we have the ability to receive and treat the most complex stroke cases. Additionally, our epilepsy program performs a range of EEG monitoring from routine up to surgical implantation. Although this is a specialized unit, there is still a lot to learn due to the variety of conditions patients can have in addition to their stroke. Teamwork on this unit is known to be exceptional. Members of 7 South team assist each other in any way they can giving this unit a very welcoming and warm atmosphere. 7 South welcomes new graduates and experienced healthcare professionals alike and gives them the chance to continue to learn and grow their skills no matter their experience.

Scope of work

Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.

Orientation

Orientation for the first week of employment as Nurse Tech requires classes.

Your availability to meet the requirements to complete orientation would be needed for our inpatient positions. Inpatient Nurse Tech Orientation begins with paid training through 5-6 required classes with our Nurse Education Team on specific dates:

  • Feb Orientation Date for non ICU units: 2/26, 2/27, 2/28 ASC: 3/11

  • March Orientation for non ICU units: 3/4 , 3/5, 3/6 ASC: 3/18 or late March starts would attend 3/25, 3/26, 3/27 ASC: 4/8

  • Monday: Day 1 - NT Foundations 1 – 8am - 4:30pm ALL New Hire NTs are required.

  • Tuesday:

  • NT Foundations 2- 8am - noon: ALL NEW HIRE NTS are required.

  • NT Basic Skills 1pm - 4:30pm: All new hire NTs unless exempt due to experience. (Exempt- prior recent hospital NT experience, nursing students who have completed at least one clinical rotation)

  • Wednesday/Friday:

  • NT Sterile technique class 8am - 4:30pm - all except exempt students (Exempt - nursing students who have completed at least one clinical rotation)

  • 3rd week after start date - Monday- 8am-4:30pm Advanced Safety Care - all new hire NTs are required.

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent

  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
