Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

Performs general clerical, cash handling and customer service duties in support of the day-to-day operations of the assigned pharmacy. Work includes (but is not limited to) activities such as: cashiering, stocking, delivery, and answering phones, typing prescription labels, filing, entering patient demographics information and daily STATS into a computer system, and pricing. Incumbents may prepackage and labels drugs for subsequent use in prescription dispensing operations and count and pour for individual prescriptions.

The work involves the exercise of strong customer service/communication skills. Incumbents are also accountable for maintaining their knowledge of internal policies and procedures, and assisting with the on-boarding of peers.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs cash register operation and cash handling.

  • Verifies customer’s insurance eligibility; performs data entry for billing purposes.

  • Collects payment from customer.

  • Prepares cash deposit in accordance with all FHS cash handling policies and procedures.

Assists customers/patients with incoming prescriptions at the counter.

  • Answer phones and triage calls demonstrating complete discretion in matters of patient confidentiality.

  • Packages the product; after being checked by the pharmacist, scans the drug, places in a bag with printed paperwork and receipt.

Assists with inventory control and replenishment, pharmaceutical returns, return-to-stock, and product rotation.

  • Faces Over-The-Counter (OTC) stock, ensuring inventory is replenished if needed.

  • Requisitions, inventories and stocks shelves in both the pharmacy and IV room.

  • Inspects for medication outdates and proper storage within the pharmacy.

Assists in maintaining cleanliness of all department work and storage areas, department conference room, intra-departmental break areas on a regular basis.

Assists in medication packaging in accordance with the Board of Pharmacy regulations.

  • Affixes labels and to container.

  • Prepackages and labels drugs for subsequent use in prescription dispensing operations.

  • Counts and pours medications for individual prescriptions and readies for Pharmacists review.

Performs routine clerical/operations support.

  • Files prescriptions.

  • Prepares required daily statistics.

  • Delivers discharge orders to floors.

Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience Requirements

Any combination of experience and education that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities. Knowledge of medical terminology is desirable.

Job Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of modern office practices and of the operation of general office equipment and tools.

  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology and abbreviations.

  • Ability to understand and follow routine to moderately complex verbal instructions.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

  • Ability to read, understand and communicate in English sufficient to perform the duties of the position.

  • Ability to use office equipment and automated systems/applications/software at an acceptable level.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the duties of the position.

Licensure/Certification

Current Certification by the Washington State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Assistant or Certification within one year of hire into the position.

Pay Range

$16.30 - $22.42 /hour
