Lead and direct Knoll and its subsidiary sites in a strategic approach to a Corporate Social Responsibility structure, through partnerships with Senior Leadership, Product Development, Sales, Marketing, Operations and HR departments.


The Director, Corporate Sustainability will maintain a thorough knowledge of all applicable sustainability standards affecting all company operations. Coordinate in conjunction with the VP of EHS, the specific action plans required to achieve sustainability excellence within the designer furniture industry.

Lead the formulation of the company’s long-term sustainability vision, mission and operating principles, and lead the development of a high-level strategy to support them.

Provide senior management with advice on and solutions to identified root causes affecting the current sustainability program.

Work with all applicable levels of the organization to develop processes that will drive the improvements needed to close any identified gaps.

Review and analyze current sustainability trends to be integrated into the ongoing strategy.

Collaborate with the company’s internal groups (e.g. Senior Leadership, Legal, Product Development, Sales, Marketing, Communications, Supply Chain, Operations, HR and EHS) to develop a coordinated sustainability plan. Build sustainability principles into short and long-range business planning, capital planning and operations planning.

Form and lead the Company’s Sustainability Governance Council that will help shape and initially oversee the re-launch of the sustainability efforts of the company. Oversee and define the scope of the committee, short term and long term. Appoint the committee members, define duties and assign the committee accountabilities.

Facilitate internal and external communications and visibility as the company spokesperson on sustainability issues. Create and implement communication strategies to publicize the company’s sustainability effort and promote broad awareness of sustainability initiatives, both internally and externally.

Liaise with appropriate regulatory agencies as needed.

Collaborate, coordinate & coach sustainability staff. When necessary; plan, request, and assist in the hiring of new staff.

Work within the corporate framework to foster the career growth of sustainability staff

Responsible for establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with internal Knoll clients.

Required Skills

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science, engineering or related field.

Required Experience

10+ years of progressively responsible experience in sustainability or related fields.
