The Custom Finish Representative will lead the development of consistent processes to fulfill customer finish requests and will be the single point of contact for Knoll dealers, designers and sales representatives for non-standard laminate, veneer, paint, plating and glass finishes. The Custom Finish Representative receives finish requests and interfaces with the appropriate Knoll manufacturing and supply chain resources to develop and source custom finishes and materials, communicates pricing and finish codes to requestors, and sets up and maintain databases for non-standard finishes.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Document current finish processes and identify inconsistencies for each finish type (laminate, veneer, paint, glass) at each Knoll manufacturing site. Work with appropriate stakeholders to streamline processes within Knoll with goal of reducing customer lead time and improving customer experience.

  • Work with Marketing Product Managers to establish consistent finish program and pricing methodology across product lines, maintain master pricing matrices and apply pricing consistently, leveraging Oracle capabilities.

  • Develop and maintain forms, procedures and customer-facing tools to communicate process for requestors to follow, including where to send samples for matching, sample requirements and finish application drawings.

  • Interface with Knoll Manufacturing Finish & Veneer Specialists, Procurement and Quality to research manufacturing and supplier capabilities to determine feasibility of finish requests.

  • Facilitate and coordinate requests to match finishes within and across product lines, including Knoll Office, Studio and DatesWeiser.

  • Obtain supplier quotes for non-standard materials and finishes and calculate customer pricing.

  • Respond to requestor with proposed solutions, pricing and finish codes, associated minimums, manufacturing limitations, sheet size implications, yields, lead times, etc., and provide same information to Custom Product Development Representatives and Knoll operations where required.

  • Maintain non-standard finish code logs and update Knoll business systems that are used to archive and utilize them in production.

  • Communicate the actions and timelines required from manufacturing sites and suppliers that are critical to customer satisfaction and obtain their commitment to keeping same .

  • Develop excellent working relationships with Manufacturing, Marketing, Procurement and Sales at all levels of the organization to build consensus and facilitate interaction between these groups.

  • Maintain an open flow of communication to customers and internal support departments.

  • Support Knoll Operations in the resolution of manufacturing opportunities relating to finishes.

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in project management, business process development or continuous improvement

  • Strong organizational, problem solving and innovative thinking skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to facilitate interactions with colleagues at all levels of the organization, suppliers and external Knoll customers

  • Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes used in contract product applications, with ability to resolve finish issues based on manufacturing constraints

  • Proven track record of negotiating and overcoming technical and business-related issue

  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel

  • Mathematical aptitude

  • Working knowledge of engineering change processes and JD

  • Working knowledge of materials, manufacturing, finish and assembly technique

  • Office furniture/Knoll process experience preferred


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (Business, Design or Engineering preferred)
