OVERVIEW:

The Manager of Store Planning and Design responsibilities include, but not limited to, leading a team of Store Planners to develop and manage stores as well as manage architectural design standards and aesthetics across multiple banners. This role will be required to develop and maintain brand standards, consistency, and best practices to deliver a ‘best in class’ environment and customer experience. Will collaborate with internal and external partners to develop prototype standards, guidelines, and training tools for the broader team. Leads partnerships with Purchasing, vendor partners and vendor shop initiatives. Must maintain a global understanding of store space productivity, project scope budgeting, project deadlines and be able to make fact-based recommendations on space, fixturing and architectural adjustments to maintain the Dick's Corporate image and improve financial results. Leads a team to ensure all requirements are met, interacts and collaborates with multiple areas including Development, Visual Presentation, Construction, Merchandising, and Store Operations to achieve company goals within specified timelines and budgets.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Communication/Project Management

  • Ensures all new store data is entered into the database accurately and timely. This information is then provided companywide on physical characteristics and space in fleet of stores

  • Monitor quality results of store floor plans and merchandising prior to publication to both internal business partners as well as outside architects for the creation of construction documents

  • Develops a relationship and communicates regularly with merchant organization (DMM, GMM, VP of Replenishment) to incorporate strategic vision into store specific and prototypical floorplans by adjusting architectural elements, fixturing and interior elevations. Maintains a timely flow of accurate merchandising information to and from the Space Management team for the development of accurate floor plans for new stores, remodels and ad hoc construction projects and provide budget based recommendations on adjustments to achieve financial results.

  • Manages the special project roll outs in new and existing stores to ensure shops are planned correctly, installed on schedule and within budget. Manages the relationship with external vendor partners to ensure deadlines and expectations are met or exceeded on vendor shop programs

Floor Plan Analysis/Execution

  • Manage the floor plan tracking report that tracks milestones for all projects, the change matrix that tracks applying new merchandise direction to in-progress projects. These duties require the development and maintenance of effective working relationships with the Merchants, Visual, Construction, Real Estate.Ensures Store Planners coordinate floor plan updates and code compliance issues with the outside approved architects when releasing the final floor plans and answer project specific questions from field construction project managers.

  • Partner with business owners on resolutions when conflicts exist

  • Manages the process to review the interior details of project specific documents with the architect, national account vendors and other internal partners to ensure they are current and accurate with minimal error and omissions.

Prototype Management/Cost Management

  • Manages the process with internal and external partners to ensure the interior prototype documents are accurate per company standards biannually

  • Partners with Architectural Design Team to ensure the Prototype Managing Architect (PMA) adheres to all company requirements.

  • Ensures the team maintains the interior drawings accurate and orderly archives.

  • Manages a library of interior details and prototypical color and material finish boards

  • Manages shop drawing library

  • Manages and tracks the value engineering process to develop and facilitate prototypical specific cost working with internal and external partners on all banners.

  • Continually finds and presents cost savings ideas as not to negatively impact the customer experience.

Supervise and Develop Talent

  • Manages the execution responsibilities and workload of self and direct reports to achieve department deliverables on-time, within budgetary parameters and with quality.

  • Provide direct reports with timely and regular feedback to support teammate development/ growth in role.

  • Establish strategic staffing and succession plans within span of control and gain Director support; successfully deliver on proposed staffing objectives.

  • Drive talent selection process for open direct report positions; ensure all direct reports are appropriately trained and on-boarded. Demonstrate a high level of passion and commitment to enhancing the overall teammate experience by displaying integrity, inclusion and empowering direct/indirect reports to be their best

  • Provides leadership and professional development to ensure that the group develops skill sets and meets or exceeds company goals of project budgeting, sales expectations for new stores and special projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in architecture, interior design or space planning

  • 5-7 years’ experience

  • Strong background with a national retail chain, architectural firm and/or interior design firm

  • Architect or Interior Design License preferred but not required

  • Experience with Microsoft suite

  • Excellent AutoCAD and Revit skills

  • 3d Max preferred, but not required

  • Working knowledge of retail architecture/design, planning and construction cost

  • Teammate development: Strong leadership skills to develop and train Store Planning staff

Ability to juggle multiple projects

  • Must be detail oriented while maintaining an understanding of big picture goals
