Terracon Consultants, a nationwide engineering consulting firm, is seeking an assistant project manager to join our team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This position would be part of a very skilled team that manages projects for and performs airborne chemical monitoring, asbestos and lead paint inspections, noise monitoring, indoor air quality assessments, and other activities. General Responsibilities:

Manage small asbestos inspection and abatement projects. Assist senior project managers with larger and complex projects. As your skillset grows, you will take on more complex tasks and projects. Perform tests and sampling of air and building materials for asbestos, lead, and other compounds.  Also includes monitoring for parameters such as temperature, carbon dioxide, and noise and personnel exposure monitoring.  Operate and calibrate field monitoring equipment.  Perform asbestos and lead paint inspections and oversight for abatement projects.  Tabulate and prepare data for written reports.  Adhere to strict safety standards. This position is based out of our Charlotte, North Carolina office, but supports clients in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

• Direct and supervise technicians on small projects.

• Coordinate project activities between clients and outside contractors.

• Prepare project proposals, including budget generation.

• Understand project risks and safety, perform pre-task planning, and coordinate with APR (Authorized Project Reviewer) and technicians to communicate these.

• Independently perform routine and non-routine inspections on various projects for asbestos, lead paint, and other hazardous building materials.

• Perform monitoring and project oversight during asbestos abatement projects.

• Perform advanced field work and assist with senior project management.

• Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects.  Participate in pre-task planning.  Report any safety issues or concerns to management.   

• Lead and be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.  

• License for asbestos air monitor and inspector in North Carolina and South Carolina, or relevant experience.

• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience or the equivalent in training and related experience.

• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

Preferred Certification:

• License / certification for lead inspector or risk assessor in North Carolina or Federal EPA.

• Other national, regional, state, and local environmental related certifications will also be considered if deemed appropriate by the Terracon Department Manager.
