SCHEDULE

Must be available to work between 20 - 25 hours per week

Days, Nights, Weekends and Holidays as needed

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

Performs basic clerical and limited customer service work in a public library. Work is performed under regular supervision.

Essential Functions

  • Sorts and shelves books and other library materials.

  • Keeps library materials shelved in proper alphabetical or numerical order.

  • Locates books and other library materials on shelves.

  • Assists with basic circulation functions including checking materials in.

  • Removes library materials deposited in book drop.

  • Interacts with patrons in order to assist them in locating library materials and facilities. Answers directional or basic procedural inquiries.

  • Answers telephone.

  • Does related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with patrons and co-workers.

Ability to serve the public and interact with co-workers with honesty and integrity.

Basic skills in the use of personal computers, basic software applications, and peripheral devices.

Ability to read and alphabetize accurately and place materials in their proper place.

Ability to accurately sort and file materials alphabetically, numerically, and chronologically.

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and reach to shelve a variety of library materials.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

  • Must have completed a minimum of two (2) years of high school.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, crouch, crawl, and reach.

Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds, and push a loaded book cart weighing up to 200 pounds.

Must be able to see, speak, and hear.

Must be able to tolerate exposure to dust.

CITY OF BOCA RATON - BENEFITS SUMMARY

Part-Time Employees

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: To be eligible to receive Paid Leave and to contribute to the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, a part-time employee must have worked at least 1,040 hours in the prior fiscal year

PAID LEAVE: Employees who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per fiscal year will receive twelve (12) hours of Paid Leave on October 1st. This Paid Leave shall be used no later than September 30th of that fiscal year or it will be forfeited. These hours may not accumulate and may only be granted with the approval of the employee's supervisor. This paid leave has no cash value at separation of employment.

MISSION SQUARE 457 DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLAN: Employees who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per fiscal year will be allowed to participate in the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan. The City will not provide any matching funds.
